By Pablo Conde Ferrer

On Friday, August 22, 2014

Frequently mistaken for the Proteus game, Proteus 8 is far from that. It’s a very helpful tool for creating printed circuit board (PCB) designs. Users can capture schematic designs, develop PCBs, and simulate microprocessors. Many of its users love how it simplifies all these tasks with its user-friendly interface. Along with this, it features a number of combined modules that offers diverse services. In addition, to make it more powerful, it combined ISIS schematic capture and ARES PCB layout. ISIS, or the Intelligent Schematic Input System, is a module that has numerous features and that can be controlled through its simple user interface (UI). It enables users to easily design an electric circuit’s plane using various components. Components that are usually used include simple resistors, microprocessor, signal generators, microcontroller, power supplies, and many more. It is so amazing in fact, that Proteus 8 has the capability to define components, its many aspects and even its appearance. Truly, this software provides a powerful PCB design environment.

Develop Your Own Circuit Boards and Test Them through a Simulation Process

By Sam James

On Thursday, February 19, 2015

Proteus 8 is very helpful especially to students who are learning how to create circuitry designs. It helps them create schematic captures, develop circuit designs, and simulate them. Its user interface adds more help because of its simplicity and ease of use. Most importantly, its modules, ARES, ISIS, and VSM, are combined to make it a powerful circuit design app. Proteus 8’s modules are not difficult to understand. Though easy, they provide powerful functions for Proteus 8 users. ARES, or Advanced Routing and Editing Software, enables users to route, locate and edit printed circuit board components. It is a 3D viewer that allows users to preview a circuit board before it comes to real life. It also provides a way to edit the surface layer of a circuit board. ISIS on the other hand, is Intelligent Schematic Input System. It is a simple interface that enables users to add in various components on the plane of a circuit board. VMS meanwhile, is Virtual System Modeling and it is the simulation module of Proteus 8.

Pros

  • Includes various circuit board components
  • Simulates and handles tested circuit boards

Cons

  • Full functions are only available in paid full version

One Of The Best Experiences I Have Been Given By Gaming

By Sam James

On Monday, July 13, 2015

Let me start this review by saying that this game is really good and very different among other games that I played out there. It shows to all professional gamers what can be done with gaming as an art form. Well, when you start playing this one you will notice plenty of things to discover as you walk in the game. I must say, after 20 minutes of frustrations, I feel so relax and I decided to enjoy playing this game. Like what I have said a while ago, you will discover so many things here like interactions with sounds through the environments and many weird things that lead you to finally understand this game. Well, if you don’t like it, still this one is the best game for me. I rank it as one of the weirdest but beautiful game I have played in terms of artistic merit. You should try this game and see how it works.

Pros

  • The music fits very well with this version
  • Very entertaining and fun to play

Cons

  • The price is a bit expensive for this type of game

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

For what are you going to use the program?
  • i am a student in a university in morocco i study computer science one of my professors told us to download this program to use it for the whole year

  • study PCB designing understanding design methodology and technique ,learn simulation of differrent models of microctoller, designe of layouts

  • checking my project work in order to ensure the correct graphs are submitted and the circuit works - only need for short period of time though

  • I'm going to use the program for project simulation which allow me to verify many of electronic compnents like microcontroller, digital converter, decoder ...

  • I need to be design a harmonics frequency generator circuit design for my college project work. so this software will helpful for me to understanding the entire things.

What similar programs have you used?
  • LabView was amazing, but i hope Proteus gonna challenge this one depends on what i have seen proteus is powerfull and awesome for different design

  • the similar programs i have ever used are livewire and construtor virtual de circuitos, now i intentet to use the program proteus to perform my trials

  • INTERFACING OF DIFFERENT HARDWARE ELEMENTS TO PIC MICROCONTROLLER AND embedded-c programming for PIC 16F877 USING PROTEUS SOFTWARE AND MPLAB

Review

Proteus is an application that allows the user to make schematic captures, simulate microprocessors and develop PCB (printed circuit board) designs. Most of the users download this software because its interface simplifies the different tasks. It comprises several modules that are combined to offer distinct services. This software combines ARES PCB layout and ISIS schematic capture to provide a powerful design program.

The 3D viewer gives the customer the opportunity to get a view of the circuit board as it would be in real life

ISIS (Intelligent Schematic Input System) module provides a wide number of features controlled by using a simple user interface. It allows you to design the plane of an electric circuit using many different components, such signal generators, simple resistors, power supplies, a different microcontroller or microprocessor, and many others. Proteus it makes possible to define many of the aspects of the components appearance and it incorporates a powerful design environment.

The designs can be simulated in real-time through VSM (Virtual System Modeling). It is provided with a mixed-mode SPICE simulation, microprocessor models and animated components to facilitate the simulation to the user. VSM extension is integrated in the ISIS module and allows you to simulate the tasks that you want the program to carry out, being able to handle the microcontroller and its outputs. The simulation can be done with low level and high level code.

Another remarkable module that is integrated in Proteus is ARES (Advanced Routing and Editing Software) is a tool that allows you to route, edit and locate components used to for the production of printed circuit boards. The 3D viewer gives the customer the opportunity of having a view of the board as it would be in the real life. It generally gives you the option of editing the welding and surface layers.

Additional Information

Compared to other similar applications, Proteus provides the user with various tools that work in a simple and intuitively way. Maybe that's why this tool is frequently used in the education field. It is very friendly for novice users who are interested on obtaining high level simulation, schematics and board designs. You can download a free version to try it out.

Another positive feature of Proteus is that the developer provides free material to manage this software. In the official website there are several video demonstrations about Proteus VDM simulation and PCB design. There is also more support information to download and discussion forums that could help the user to utilize the application and share information.
