After being lost in videogame limbo for some time, the Sands of Time bring the Prince of Persia back onto our game platforms. Ubisoft rebooted the myth and successfully released a new trilogy with the same spirit and atmosphere of the 1989 version. With a new 3D graphics engine, the new Prince of Persia franchise attempts to safeguard that old gaming feeling.
On his way to Azad, Shamaran, King of Persia, and his son the Prince are tricked into attacking a fortify city in the middle of the desert by the Indian Maharaja’s. The Prince enters the fortress, thanks to his acrobatic movements and a strange and ancient dagger that he discovers, and works his way through the dungeons to conquer the city. Once victory is complete, the army proceeds to sack Azad, and the Visir asks for the strange dagger as a reward. The King refuses to take the precious treasure from his son’s hand, so the Visir convinces the Prince to place it in a huge hourglass.

Princess Farah, the Maharaja’s daughter, tries to warn the Prince about the power he is about to release, but he pays no attention to her. Suddenly, the hourglass explodes, releasing the mystical sands within, transforming soldiers and the Prince’s father into strange creatures. With no idea about what to do, the rogue Prince must trust Farah to help fix the situation.
Fourteen years after the first Prince of Persia, Ubisoft presents a highly enjoyable and fully recommendable 3D platform game. The Sands of Time will take you back old-time gaming, with nice simplicity and an incredible storyline.
How to use
This new Prince of Persia brings “One Thousand and One Nights” to a new 3D level. Our character, the Prince, is a young arrogant soldier, too immature to fight against the Visir’s manipulating words. The mystical force he unleashes pushes him into the princess's hands, and with the dagger’s help, he will be the only person able to bring life back to normal.
The game is set in Azad Palace, and the Prince will need to get into the dungeons to find the evil Visir. The game follows the franchise trademark aesthetics with beautiful and dreamy settings.
The gameplay is quite natural. The Prince can walk on walls as well as any acrobat, and can climb and jump from platform to platform. To attack or defend himself, he has to count on his sword and dagger; by controlling both weapons and jumping the Prince is unbeatable.
Princess Farah will help us to travel through the different challenging stages. Even though the Prince can control time, he will experience flash-forward scenes providing tips on how to succeed in this puzzle-solving quest. The Sands of Time give the Prince the power to manipulate time, and he can go back in time to undo bad decisions or actions.
Old-style gamers will enjoy the tributes paid to the original game throughout this version. Potions are replaced by fountains that can restore life. Traditional fans will enjoy the colourful enemies and the dungeon setting, with all the traps and blades and such. Unfortunately, there’s no mirror this time…
